Vegan Sausages

Vegan sausages are a great way to enjoy a tasty and healthy meal without compromising on flavor. They are incredibly versatile, and can be used in many dishes such as pasta, sandwiches, and salads. Plus, they are far healthier than their meat counterparts, as they contain no animal products and little to no saturated fat. They are also easy to prepare, making them an ideal option for busy vegans and vegetarians.

  • 1 cup textured vegetable protein (TVP)
  • 1/4 cup nutritional yeast
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup vegetable broth
  • 1/4 cup flaxseed meal
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 cup vegan Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup vegan barbecue sauce
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • Oil for frying (optional)

Start by prepping the ingredients. Begin by combining the TVP, nutritional yeast, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, chili powder, thyme, oregano, and pepper in a large bowl and mix together. In a separate bowl, mix together the vegetable broth, flaxseed meal, and water. Set both bowls aside.

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the garlic and sauté for about 1 minute. Add the TVP mixture and sauté for another 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the flaxseed mixture and stir to combine. Add the sea salt, vegan Worcestershire sauce, and vegan barbecue sauce and stir to combine. Finally, add the breadcrumbs and stir until everything is well mixed. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.

Remove the mixture from the heat and let cool for at least 10 minutes. Once cooled, shape the mixture into sausage shapes. If desired, heat a small amount of oil in a skillet and fry the sausages for 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown.

Serve the vegan sausages as desired. They can be served on a bun with vegan condiments, in a vegan wrap, or simply on their own. Enjoy!
