Vegan Cheddar Jalapeno Waffles

Vegan Cheddar Jalapeno Waffles are a delicious and savory twist on traditional breakfast waffles.   • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
  • 1 cup vegan cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, diced
  • ¾ cup plain plant-based milk
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • Vegan butter and/or syrup, for serving (optional)


Preheat a waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, garlic powder, and nutritional yeast. Add the vegan cheddar cheese and jalapenos, and stir to combine. In a separate bowl, whisk together the plant-based milk, oil, and apple cider vinegar. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, and stir until just combined. The batter should be thick but not too dry.

Spray the preheated waffle iron with non-stick cooking spray. Using a measuring cup or ladle, pour the waffle batter onto the hot waffle iron. Close the lid and cook until the waffles are golden brown and crisp. Serve the vegan waffles hot with vegan butter and/or syrup, if desired. Enjoy!
