Ingredients
- 1 block of extra firm tofu
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup of soy sauce
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon of grated ginger
- 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon of sesame oil
- 1/4 cup of cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1/4 cup of chopped green onions
Preparation
The first step in making this Spicy Tofu is to prepare the marinade. In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, garlic, ginger, brown sugar, red pepper flakes, and sesame oil. Add the tofu to the marinade and mix until everything is evenly coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the tofu marinate for at least 15 minutes.
After the tofu has marinated, it’s time to prepare it for frying. Drain the marinade from the tofu and place the tofu in a shallow dish. In a separate shallow dish, combine the cornstarch, black pepper, and a pinch of salt. Dip each piece of tofu in the cornstarch mixture, coating it evenly on all sides.
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tofu to the skillet and fry for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Once the tofu is cooked through, remove it from the skillet and place it on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
To assemble the spicy tofu, place the fried tofu on a plate and top with the reserved marinade. Sprinkle the chopped green onions over the tofu and serve immediately. Enjoy!
