Smoked Tofu – The Perfect Vegetarian Recipe
Smoked tofu is a delicious vegetarian recipe that is packed with flavour and can be used in a variety of dishes. It is made by smoking tofu, which is a type of vegan cheese made from soybeans. The smoky flavour and firm texture make it an ideal meat substitute for those who follow a vegan or vegetarian diet. It can be served as a main course, side dish, or even as an appetizer. It can also be used in a variety of dishes such as stir-fries, salads, wraps, and sandwiches.
Ingredients
- 1 block of firm tofu
- 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons of liquid smoke
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon of onion powder
- 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon of ground cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
To begin, drain the block of tofu and wrap it in paper towels. Place the wrapped tofu on a plate or cutting board, and press down firmly for one minute to remove any excess moisture. Once the tofu has been pressed, cut it into cubes and set aside.
In a medium bowl, combine the soy sauce, liquid smoke, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, oregano, cumin, salt and pepper. Mix the ingredients together until they are fully combined. Add the cubed tofu to the bowl and toss to coat the cubes evenly. Allow the tofu to marinate for at least 20 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 375°F. Place the marinated tofu cubes on a parchment-lined baking sheet and spread them out evenly. Bake the tofu in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, remove the baking sheet from the oven and flip the cubes over. Return the baking sheet to the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
Once the tofu has baked for a total of 30 minutes, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool slightly. The tofu is now ready to be served or used in a variety of dishes. Enjoy!
