Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup pecans, coarsely chopped and salted

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease an 8-inch square baking pan with butter.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, butter, sugar, and salt until a crumbly dough forms. Press the dough into the bottom of the prepared baking pan. Bake for 15 minutes, until lightly golden.

Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the sweetened condensed milk, butter, brown sugar, and cream. Cook, stirring frequently, for 6 to 8 minutes, until the mixture is thick and bubbly. Remove from heat and set aside.

Sprinkle the chocolate chips and salted pecans over the shortbread crust. Pour the caramel over the top and spread into an even layer. Bake for 25 minutes, until caramel is bubbly and golden.

Allow to cool completely before cutting into bars. Serve with a scoop of ice cream if desired. Enjoy!
