Easy Falafel Recipe

Falafel is a classic Middle Eastern dish that is a favorite amongst vegetarians and vegans. It is made from chickpeas and spices, and is usually served in a pita or on top of a salad. This Easy Falafel Recipe is quick and easy to make, and is packed with flavor. It’s the perfect addition to any meal, whether you’re looking for a light lunch or a tasty snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (15 ounces) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1/4 cup chopped red onion
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • Oil for frying

Preparation

Begin by draining and rinsing the chickpeas. Place them in a food processor and pulse until they are broken up, but not completely pureed. You want them to still have some texture.

Next add in the red onion, garlic, parsley, cumin, coriander, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Pulse until everything is combined.

Add in the flour and pulse again until everything is well combined. The mixture should be thick and slightly sticky.

Using your hands, form the mixture into small patties. You should be able to make 12-14 patties.

Heat a few inches of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add in the falafel patties, a few at a time. Fry them for a few minutes on each side, until they are golden brown and crispy.

Once they are done, remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb any excess oil.

Serve the falafel with a side of tahini sauce or your favorite dipping sauce. Enjoy!
